Baby Names

There's a few simple rules that one should follow when naming a child. Nothing special, and very easy to remember. This seems to be lost on many modern parents.

  1. No nouns. Yes, this includes names like Summer, Rain, Apple and the rest. If you don't know what a noun is, you shouldn't be having kids.
  2. No misspellings just to be unique. When your child is in Kindergarten, the teacher won't be able to tell your Maydeysson from that other Maddisyn.
  3. You are not Welsh. There is nothing wrong with using vowels - and if you don't know what a vowel is, you shouldn't be having kids either. Naming your child Dystynyyny instead of Destiny doesn't make her Welsh. Also, refer rule (1 and 2).
  4. Check a list of top 100 baby names in your area and try and refrain from using names in the top 10. Also refer rule (2), if its misspelt its still the same name.

If you're still stuck with thinking of a name, here's a few helpful links to baby name generators to get you started, and while you're at it check your names here.

Girl's names

I Personally Like Dorian

For a boy's name, I would choose Dorian, after a favorite book. Dilbert - I don't know about that one - I think it would inflict a lot of undue pain on the child. For a girl, I would choose Hestia, after the greek goddess of the hearth. Of course, before I would even think about the names, though, I would try my best to go through the step-by-step processes prior to pregnancy, La Ma's classes, proper training on care, and adequate health insurance long before pregnancy becomes a cost issue.

I quite like the name Linus

I quite like the name Linus - reminds me of Matt Damon in Oceans 11.

Perl for a girl; go to agree with that, unless you're giving birth to a 75-year old!

court orders parents to change baby's name!

I thought you might find this interesting too - “Court orders parents to change baby’s name from Friday to Gregory”

Friday Germano is now Gregory Germano. The change came after an Italian court ordered the 1-year-old boy’s parents to rename him because his birth name, Venerdi, was “ridiculous or shameful.”

Venerdi means Friday in Italian. It was also the name of a character in Robinson Crusoe.

“They thought that it recalled the figure of a savage, thus creating a sense of inferiority and failing to guarantee the boy the necessary decorum,” the family’s lawyer, Paola Rossi, tells the Associated Press.
